This is an interesting book, but I find this author guilty of something many authors do when sharing research results. He refers to the change in the probability of a bad outcome and the statistical significance of the change, but never tells you the base probability or the absolute probability. I looked up one of the research papers he references on bad health outcomes related to living close to power lines. The authors of that paper do find higher rates of bad outcomes, but the higher rates are still very small. Here's how this technique works. I tell you that the probability of cancer doubles if you use a hair dryer. What I don't tell you is that it doubled from 1 in one million to 2 in one million. While the doubling is true, the absolute elevated risk is still very small. While I agree with the author on a number of points, I think he exaggerates the overall risk of electromagnetic radiation. It is probably not smart to have a cell phone at your head for extended periods. Use a headphone or speaker. And his points about companies cherry picking researchers are good. But if the overall risk was really as bad as the author suggests, wouldn't we be seeing life expectancy dropping?

I loved this book. It was easy to read and the concepts were understandable. The information was relevant to today and the examples were on events that happened recently. When I say recently I mean that the examples they use are dated past the 1900s. Since my criminology class was online, my teacher made us read a chapter and then have us take a test. Usually I have trouble with reading something without the professor explaining the topic. That was not the case with this book. There were very concise explanations that were easy to digest. Textbooks that I have used in the past are crammed with so much information that you can’t get the main point from them. More textbooks should be like this one.I purchased the used version of this book. When dealing with used books, generally I always get the ones that have markings in them from the previous user. This was not the case when I opened this book. It seemed like it was practically untouched. It almost looked as if it was brand new. The book’s cover looked fine as well. There was a bend in mine but it did not matter. The inside contents were unharmed and readable.The price for it was excellent too! If you are required to get a copy, get it here. It will save you a very good amount of money if you purchase the book here. It was cheaper than the other place I was about to get it from. Even if you are not taking a course in criminology, this book is still a good read for those interested in this topic. It was a good read and I actually learned something from it. I rarely say that about a textbook so take my word for it.

I ordered this textbook for my criminology class, and ordered it "NEW" and arrived in original wrapping/packaging...however, as I skimmed through it, I realized that my book had numerous markings: pen marks, highlight marks, and marker marks. They're all pretty small and doesn't interfere with the text and material, so it's fine, but I expected my book to be free of markings since I ordered a NEW book, not a used book. Other than that, my book was in good condition and free of folds. I'm still pretty satisfied regardless of the markings my book has.

When I ordered this book I was under the impression that it was in good condition, but upon receiving the book, I noticed pages were not attached and were just put back in to look like they were attached. Also the book had so much writing and highlighers allover that it was sometimes hard to follow along.I believe the seller was deceitful when he/she sold the book; however for the price it was okay. It served it's purpose and saved me money.

This is a required text for my Criminology class. I think that it is pretty interesting and easy to follow. It's up to date and relevant and there are lots of stories in it that have been on the news in the past few years, making it more interesting because I am familiar with some of the cases. It's easy to understand and not overwhelming.

This book was required as part of an "Intro to Criminology" course at a local community college. The course relied 100% on this book, and I can now see why. The authors skillfully survey the field of criminology in a relevant and easy to read manner. The book was recently updated, so the examples presented brought the concepts to real-life.

Basic introduction to criminology. A little wordy at times but it covers whatever you need to know in some sense. Wikipedia could probably serve the same function but I had to buy it for a class.

I was really excited about purchasing this textbook on my Kindle Fire. I found the ease of transport to be a top consideration. However, the novelty soon wore off for me. This may be just a quirk for me but I found the formatting for the digital edition to be distracting. My guess is that the hard copy is formatted with a central column of text and side margins for vocabulary and key points, I don't know for sure, I haven't actually looked at a physical textbook. I found that in the digital edition the key points, vocabulary, and photographs would sometimes be tossed into the text in the middle of the paragraph which for me was distracting and made me lose my train of thought and I would often read the insert and then have to backtrack and re-read the few sentences before and skip the inserted text to maintain the flow of the content. I think from now on I will stick to pleasure reads for my Kindle and continue to buy/rent hard copy textbooks.

Bought for a class, but after the class ended I decided to keep this textbook because it would be a great book for parents to read before their children grow into teens.Very interesting theories, ones that seem to fit well with some of the behavior I displayed as a delinquent.

This is a cheerful review because I was quite taken by this book. That's a bit surprising, because experience suggests that most grandparent books are so Hallmark/Disney/Family-Values bland or tin-eared that they read like long form greeting cards. Not so here. This book has a puckish sense of humor and a bit of parenting wisdom behind it.The twist, that the kid is babysitting the grandma, is clever and is a joke that even a younger child will get. Good start, but you still have to have a grandma and a grandchild who do real things. In this book the little jokes are telling and the interaction between grandma and child seem real and unforced. How they amuse each other and entertain and occupy themselves could be drawn from some ideal sleepover memories. From visits to the park to goofy crafts to leaving the light on for grandma at bedtime, this tale is fun, silly, and real, or at least what we wish were real. Heck, even grandma's grey hair looks good. (Although, there should probably be a section about "pretending" how hard it is to get up off the carpet.)The drawing is colorful, energetic and engaging. "Fun" is pretty hard to draw, but Lee Wildish did a great job of drawing just enough to get across the idea. The layout of the text and pictures is broken up in a way that gets across the haphazard and sort of manic nature of a sleepover. There are lots of little jokes drawn in around the edges, (the dog's reaction to stuff may be the funniest part of the book), so this really does become a "picture book" worth looking at closely.The bottom line is I'm not sure you could read this grandparent book together and not have a good time and a couple of chuckles. How nice is that?

This book was purchased along with two others that were donated to a school library in memory of the mother of a dear friend. The book is a personal favorite of mine because our granddaughter gifted my husband and I with this one as well as "How To Babysit A Grandpa". Both are very lighted hearted and very "apropos" depictions about the fun and enjoyment that is had when playing with grandkids...and begs to answer the question, "Who is babysitting whom" . They couldn't have been titled better ! It's fun to hear the giggles when our granddaughter reads it to us!I also chose this one for the school because of the age range from Kdg thru Grade 2 although the older elementary kids love it too. The illustrations are so cute and really give a nod to fun grandparents everywhere !

My 7 year old daughters favorite book is How to Babysit a Grandpa. With my mom's birthday, aka Grandma/Nena, in August I thought this would be a perfect gift for her to enjoy with my 7 year old and new baby that's due in September 2017. Fantastic books. I highly recommend this series.

My mother in law watches my daughter every day. I bought this book for her for Christmas and she laughs and thinks it so funny to hear that it’s the other way around and she’s babysitting her grandma. Super cute and funny! 🤣

I just read this book before I wrapped it for my Granddaughter, (which I do with all their books). I was smiling throughout this whole book. My granddaughter loves when I read books to her and her brother. We have done a lot of these together, going to the park, playing dress up and we even brush hair others hair. The senior building where I live doesn't allow us to have sleepovers with our grandkids, but it doesn't stop me from staying at their house overnight. She even has a Princess Tent in her room, so we can sleep in it when I come over. We have such a great time reading books and these "How To" books are just the thing to give us more ideas when they babysit their Grammy, (me). I cannot wait to purchase more of these, "How To" books for them.

I swear the author was watching my kid with my mother when this was written. Either that or all kids and grandmas are the same. (That one might be more likely)It's a cute book that really just lists all the things kids talk grandma into when grandma babysits. But it's done in a fun and entertaining way.I don't think this makes for a good regular reader or bedtime story. But it's PERFECT for grandma to read when a kid goes to visit. That's exactly what I got it for and it was a huge hit with my mom reading it to my kid.

I haven't read this book completely. It arrived when I was going to see my 5 year old granddaughter and her 3 year old brother, so I brought it along.My granddaughter asked to "borrow" it. She's summarized it and shared some of her favorite parts, but she's begged to keep the book, "Just a little longer, Nana." She's read it to her mom, dad, little brother, at school, and many many times to herself. Guess I'll need another copy. The friend who recommended this book because her granddaughter loves it steered me straight.

A child goes to spend the night at Grandma's house because Grandma needs someone to babysit her! I delightful reverse ona child going to Grandma's house to be babysat.Follow their activities and adventures until the next day when the PARENTS come to collect the SITTER.This book would be wonderful to read to a child just prior to a visit to Grandma or better yet have a child readit aloud to you if they are able.

About the Author

Michael R. Napier is a former FBI (27 years) Supervisory Special Agent, field office program manager and violent crime assessor in the National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, where he investigated complex bribery, price-fixing, organized crime, violent crime, labor racketeering, Medicare and medical fraud, and white collar crime cases. He also supervised undercover operations. He is an FBI-qualified Polygraph Examiner and has extensively studied interview and interrogation strategies and tactics and the methodology to deny successful challenges to confessions. He specializes in applying behavioral analysis to violent crimes to assess the potential for preventing violence or deterring specific criminals in individual settings. Those techniques include determining foresee-ability of an individual committing a violent act. He is a nationally-recognized presenter on various topics concerning violent crime assessment, violent offender motivation, interview and interrogation strategies and crisis management subjects. Mr. Napier holds Adjunct Faculty positions at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Wichita State University.

One of the most important "everyman" books that should be read by each and every Christian.The main reason there are so many professing Christians who don't subscribe the the Total Depravity of fallen mankind, is because they have no grasp of the holiness of God. So many seem to think that God is merely a bigger, better version of ourselves. This is not only utterly wrong and backward, it's blasphemous. Granted, I understand that we all grow at different rates, and some of us get really stunted in our growth, possibly forever remaining theological midgets our entire lives. Certain types of denominations seem to inadvertently make that a priority, in not teaching their disciples HOW to think in the first place, and in majoring on the minors and minoring on the majors. They're too busy with having "seeker sensitive" churches that the world won't find offensive, weird, and uncool, that they end up being man-centered rather than Christ-centered, and they eventually lose contact with the Head, becoming a hollow form that appears ... in some very weak fashion ... as pious, but is really dead.One of my favourite points in the book is the account concerning Uzzah, who steadied the ark from falling to the ground, and was instantly struck dead by God. I won't give it away. Read (or listen to) it for yourself and discover why it was justified.

This book by Sproul was definitely worth my time to read. It was quite interesting. I'm not a prolific reader, so finishing this book showed that I enjoyed it. Some chapters I got a fair amount more out of than others. I did read it over several months, so that could have had an impact as far as the reading flow and full enjoyment went.It had thought provoking aspects to it, and also showed more of God's nature of holiness than I considered before reading this book. Some of the aspects of His holiness might kind of shock some readers that are not that familiar with the bible. But, sometimes I think we need to be shocked a bit out of our complacency about God, while still being guided and instructed in a biblical and godly way. This book does that well. I thought the ending of it was a little abrupt, though. I do recommend the book to those wanting to know more about this particular subject, especially if they have done little to consider God's holiness.But, I do want to say it is not nearly as enthralling, well thought out, and organized as Sproul's "Chosen By God", which I would give 5 stars. "Chosen By God" is an excellent book that anyone, who has any interest at all in truly understanding election and predestination, would get so much out of and enjoy. Those topics aren't scary. They are beautiful! Check it out! :-)

R.C. Sproul has written many books. His books are a blessing to me and a great help in my understanding of Scripture. This book, however, brings the holiness of God to the forefront. Without the ability to understand the exceptional holiness of our God, it is difficult to put the rest of His Word into perspective- not man's perspective- God's. Excellent book!

Dr Sproul helped me to understand God more. To not be angry at Him anymore. To get a better grasp of His sovereignty! To see Him in ways I hadnt before. Esp chapters 6 & 7. Though chpts 1-5 are needed to help understand those chapters. Honestly, a few area of the book didnt help me but they might help others. Overall, I LOVED this book. I plan on reading it again to really grasp those concepts.

Sproul proves here once again that he is a gifted writer. He provides Biblical insights into the holiness of God and contrasts them with common perceptions of God today. The only criticism I have of the book is the chapter "The Insanity of Luther." That chapter weakens the overall impact of this title, rambling a bit before concluding. Perhaps the author's fascination with the Reformation motivated him to include it, but regardless, it would have been best if he'd deleted it from his final version. Nonetheless, Sproul offers an excellent treatment of the holiness of God here. I recommend it highly.

Too much of christianity (yes small "c") starts with themselves, or rather the 'human' element to understand 'god' (yes, small "g"). R.C. Sproul unmasks the fallacy of starting there and points to the real starting point: GOD!My favorite take away is: GOD should have/could have, at the rebellion of his creation, smacked HIS hands together and destroyed all HE had created and NOT let it continue in its reckless rebellion against HIS authority and holiness. Not only that, HE allowed, even planned for, the death of HIS SON at the hands of the little rebellious creatures...so that many might be saved!Incredible...

This book is written for Orthodontists, but The principles apply to most any entrepreneur or small business owner. I like how things are broken down into small chunks to give you a little attainable goals to work with. It’s the kind of book that you can have on your desk throughout the year and read a little at a time while you work on making your business and your life better. I have also enjoyed the book on tape, mostly for the flashcards that came with it. Dustin is a brilliant marketer, and effective coach, and has helped me build my business in ways that I know could not have been achieved otherwise. I have all of his books, and of all of them, this is the one that is the most usable on a daily basis.

This book is a great kick in the pants to get you thinking and motivated to achieve your goals professionally and personally. As an orthodontist, it's helped me not only set goals that I previously thought of, but to create new ones based on the ideas of the book. We just moved to St. Louis, so this book is really useful for us. It really delves into a lot of great local shops, activities, etc., more than any of the other guidebooks I've seen.The information is the book is set out in a somewhat eclectic way, which gives the book a kind of neat feel, but unfortunately also makes it much less user friendly. It would be a great help if it had an index and a more detailed table of contents. Many times I've thought, "Oh, where was that Italian grocery again?" and wished I could just flip to the index and look it up. But no, I have to flip page by page through the whole book until I find it. Sometimes it's even hard to find a neighborhood without a detailed table of contents -- now did she put The Hill in withTower Grove Park or together with Dogtown? (I admit, St. Louis' multiple tiny neighborhoods don't make this any easier...). (Didn't Kurt Vonnegut talk about the art of indexing a book in Cat's Cradle? Well, now I finally understand!)Other than that minor but vexing drawback, the book is really great, covers a lot of territory and is a great introduction with handy insider's tips on St. Louis -- just what you need when you are moving to a new place! Very glad I bought the book.

This book is acceptable but not definitive. Its sections are oddly disjointed and I found it tedious to use recently. I had to flip back and forth a lot. It is probably better than other guide books out there; but since I have lived here my whole...long..life, I haven't used it easily.

Odd organization, mostly outdated restauraunts already.

This book is a pretty good read for anyone who wants the lowdown on lesser-known attractions and communities in and around St. Louis. I'd like to have seen more colour photographs in the book, rather than the sometimes uninspiring black and white shots. That said, I'm sure it would have been a more expensive book had it been illustrated in colour.For the money, it's worth a read if you are planning on visiting the area, or even if you are a local resident who has led a sheltered life and not got around much.

This little book is full of fun and interesting places around our area. Too often we go looking for special places far from home when in actuality those special places are right under our noses.thanks to the author fir writing this.

I bought this book in preparation for a four-day family vacation. I found it difficult to use. The neighborhood names may be meaningful for people who live there, but for tourists new to the area, I found it to be confusing. The one map showing all of the neighborhood names was lacking enough detail to allow one to know where you really were. It would have been helpful if there was also a second map (larger scale) showing the smaller area within that was the focus of the book. After much searching in the index for certain attractions that were about 45 minutes outside of downtown St. Louis, I found out that the book didn't extend that far out. There was a small chapter at the end that featured "other attractions" that were further out, but there were only a few and the ones I was interested in were missing.Another disappointment was that the two major attractions we wanted to visit, The City Museum and Six Flags, were barely mentioned at all. The free pamphlets I picked up in our hotel lobby were 10 times more informative than this book for these two major attractions.I usually depend heavily on hard copy guidebooks for trips, but this time I returned the book and used the Trip Advisor app on my phone instead. It was much more useful, and because of it, we even found a great attraction nearby our hotel called Crystal City Underground that ended up being a highlight of our trip.

A big thanks to Amanda and Kerri for writing this book. Growing up, I spent a good amount of time with my grandparents who owned an estate on the 5100 block of South Broadway. When I decided on St. Louis as the setting for my romantic suspense I found things had changed so much since I was last there that I needed a good resource to catch up. Their Guidebook to St. Louis, By and For St. Louisans, is perfect. I can now research online the names and places mentioned in the book. The only thing lacking is an index, other wise it's perfect. Thanks again-
