This is the final installment of the Wallflowers series by Kleypas! It is a standalone but it is recommended to read the first three in the series first otherwise you will miss the references surrounding the other characters. This is the story of Daisy Bowman and Matthew Swift.Daisy Bowman is the daughter of a rich American entrepreneur whose has given Daisy an ultimatum, find someone to marry by the end of the season or marry Matthew Swift, an employee of her father and the man she hates. I was really excited to read Daisy's story, she is most quirky of the wallflowers and the most eternally positive who is looking for love. She operates in who own world leading to many people not understanding her and underestimating her. Matthew has his own backstory that is a mystery throughout the book and it slowly comes to light. This is a great ending for the wallflower series and highly recommended.

I can't believe the series is over!I can't believe that I flew through them this quickly! It's honestly so hard for me to find a book (much less a series) that hooks me and has me reading/thinking about them nonstop until I reach the ending. But the Wallflower series did that to me. And I have to say that I'm really sad to say goodbye to these characters. I fell in love with all of them (except like one haha) and I was so invested in their friendship, relationships with each other I can't help but want to be in their world forever.Strangely enough my two favorite books in the series ended up being about each of the Bowman sisters. I loved Lilian so much but really Daisy really surprised me with book. I was not expecting to love her character this much. I related to her on so many levels I honestly felt like I was reading a character based on myself at times.Matthew won my heart over from the very first time he comes on screen. He said one word and I swear it was just like instant love for me. I really loved his character, his personality just everything abut him. I can now say that I agree with everyone in saying that he's perfect for Daisy and the kind of man she needed to marry. This was a pure five star but then around 70% the book started to get slow for me, and kind of boring and I found myself wanting to skip through the drama a bit. Also I guessed Matthew's secret like literally within the first few chapters so it took that suspense out for me and I guess that's why I became bored with the drama at the end. But despite that this book will go on my favorite reads of 2017 and I can't wait to read more HR by Lisa Kleypas!

Daisy Bowman, Manhattanville heiress and New Money, meets her match in Boston success story Matthew Swift. As the fourth book in the beloved Wallflower series, we'll jump right in and assume you've read them all. If you haven't read them, this one wouldn't be such a good standalone. Devil in Winter #3 totally works as a standalone but this one... not so much. There's a lot of interaction between the girls and a backdrop would help.Minor spoilers ahead to discuss novel.I went into Scandal in Spring with the same expectation that many readers had: that cute, elfish Daisy Bowman was about to get entangled with Cam, the sexy gypsy from St. Vincent's club. She even brings him up to the Wallflowers at one point near the beginning but her inquiry was quickly shot down by her older sister (sad face number one). So in comes the hero, Matthew Swift, an American commoner who works for Daisy's father. Was I disappointed that it wasn't Cam? Yes. Did Matthew eventually win my heart over? Absolutely! Honestly, I was even somewhat relieved a little as I thought Matthew was a much better match for Daisy (ultimately). That being said, sometimes I still dream about her "Cam story" which started in a secret passageway in a scandalous club...But I digress. So Matthew Swift became one of my favorite heroes. I really loved the characterization of him. He's so analytic and intelligent! I loved the way his mind races and processes information. I can't say how often I burst into laughter while reading this novel. His reactions to Daisy were so precious and sweet. Daisy was her normal hysterical self which is fabulous. I really love her character and she was such a charmer the entire series. She's so ferocious! But she's also delicate. Once she decides she'll have Matthew it's obvious he has no say in the matter and she charges ahead, as usual, to get what she wants.I did have some issues with the novel overall though. Lillian's character seemed, to me, to have changed. I did not like her new motherly attitude toward Daisy. In the first three novels the sisters seem more equal which I really enjoyed. Yes, Lillian is older, of course, but she treats Daisy with respect. They ask each other for advice and communicate so effectively. In this novel Lillian barked at Daisy constantly and told her what to do every few pages. I found it to be really irritating. The part where she demands Daisy get into the house because her hair is like a "rat's nest" really bugged me... it was SO unlike Lillian. Lillian loves that Daisy is unconventional and wild and I found her controlling ways to be out of character (more in line with her mother Mercedes who was all but missing from this book) and so irritating at points that I wanted to strangle her. The reasons Kleypas offered for Lillian's bizarre behavior were not acceptable to me. Sweet, but still off the mark. (No spoilers, you have to read to find out.) I just didn't enjoy the tension between the sisters the whole time, without a good explanation as to why.If I had another complaint with this novel it's that I wanted to know Matthew more. I think this book would have way-benefited from a prologue featuring Matthew-as-a-child. I think keeping his secret, well, secret was unnecessary to the plot of the story. It's almost like Kleypas wanted to keep us, the readers, in suspense that Matthew has a dark sinister background... but.... why??? It's only Daisy that needs to be in suspense! Not us! What makes a good romance novel is knowing WHY the characters are motivated to act the way they are and knowing the other characters don't understand why (yet). Waiting to find out Matthew's secret to the end, when Daisy finds out, ended up being somewhat anti-climatic. In hindsight I would have wanted to know Matthew's secrets from the beginning and I would have wanted to ride that rollercoaster of internal struggle with him. Like when he's resisting Daisy he would have been struggling with these thoughts of guilt, conflict, fear, blah blah. And we would know his secret and it would be suspenseful to see sweet innocent Daisy trying to take down this... well... no spoilers. This novel had five star elements to it. The love scenes, Matthew, Daisy and the ending were fantastic. But really it had many three star elements that brought it down. Some of the interactions between the Wallflowers seemed a little lame and out-of-character and I felt Matthew was a rushed and improvised character to add to the finale of the series. The plot to this novel had potential to be one of the strongest of the four novels (the other three didn't really even have a plot besides... resisting love) but it really missed the mark in that way. Kleypas, instead, keeps it as a resisting-love-romance like the other three and just threw in this bizarre dark twist at the end that was really underdeveloped.I think this novel could have taken just a bit more editing, thought and attention. If it were a stand-alone novel it would have been a three star book or even less, despite the laughter it inspired from me. It just doesn't have a strong story. What gives it strength is the backbone of the series behind it. As the conclusion to a series it is wonderful. The entire series is very recommended and will be a favorite, a keeper, and a reread for years to come.A Wallflower Christmas, the next book in the series, is WONDERFUL. I would rate it 4.5 to 5 stars in the genre. It is absolutely true to the characters of the Wallflowers. It was like a coming home and all of the girls were perfectly themselves.

A Scandal in Spring, book 4 in the Wallflower series is an enjoyable, entertaining read. I love how these books are so incredibly different, the path these ladies take to get their happily ever after is not easy.Daisy Bowman is the last and youngest of the Wallflowers to find a husband, her father has given her an ultimatum to find a husband by the end of season of he is making her marry a man of his choosing.Matthew Swift is an associate of Thomas Bowman and a favorite due to his excellent business acumen. He is not someone Daisy likes of feels would suit her as a potential husband.Matthew Swift comes to England at the request of his employer, setting up a new manufacturing plant in Bristol. He arrived at Stony Cross Park, immediately seeking out the object of his infatuation for years. Finding out the ultimatum her father gave Daisy he had to stop it, the secrets he has been keeping about his past couldn't touch Daisy, he wouldn't let it.
