I think this book is more for rising 6th graders than rising 7th graders. I purchased it for a rising 7th grader thinking it would be a good summer review of 6th grade Language Arts. We decided to start in the middle of the workbook since the early lessons were too easy. I think I will have my son do the early lessons in the book on days where he is just not in the mood to get any work done. It will be a quick review and an easy accomplishment while still keeping his mind engaged. The lessons are perfect for summer -- short and not too time consuming (I want him to stay sharp but still have a fun summer!) I would not recommend this as a textbook, if that is what you are searching for, but it is good for keeping skills sharp during breaks.
The book is a little more basic than I would think a 6th grader would need but the simplicity works well for my ADHD son. The book is on the small side as well but a good value for the money. Would recommend as a suppliment.
I have a son who I am homeschooling for the remainder of his 6th grade year, so I needed some books to help with this. I ordered this book because I couldn't decide what to do for his reading and comprehension curriculum, and I must say, I absolutely love it! It will provide us with just what we need! My daughter was having trouble with reading comprehension and did some extra work with a special teacher in 4th grade for about 4 months, but we also got a Skill Builders Reading Comprehension workbook. She did 2 pages every night in addition to her regular homework and a year later, she was tops on the charts for the reading section of the California SBAC exam and instead of being behind, she had caught up to her grade level and is now a half-year ahead of her grade level (in 5th, but reading at 6th grade level). We continue to use these workbooks. Don't be fooled by the low price. This is a quality workbook. I also applaud the company for making such a good tool so affordable!
This book appears to potentially have merit as a practice book for standardized tests, such as the ERB. However, as a guide, the answer key section suffers from too many unhelpful 'answers' written only as "Answers may vary." For kids trying to get their arms around what test-givers expect to see, this is far from helpful and Carson Dellosa would serve the student better by suggesting at least some possible responses in these instances. On a plus side, the content seems relatively interesting, and the work involved is varied and reaches into thinking that involves capturing specific details, as well as putting the finger on what the big picture idea is (again, sometimes however leaving it up to the student to presume they may have gotten the "correct" response because often no specific suggested answer is given). Were it not for this, I would have perhaps given it a 5-star but as it stands now, a neutral.
I just started homeschooling my 6th and 8th grade kids and this book is great for the 6th grader. I want her to be able to read and comprehend which is very important. She enjoys the stories and the questions are great.
Very useful for my daughter who is in 6th grade AP English. Would recommend to others.
My daughter says she liked this book. It helped her practice and get better at some of the elements. I personally think this book needs more content and also should include some new concepts/ways of solving problems.
