The one that states "Easy Origami" is a breeze: it's simple and fun. The other two books are for intermediate (as stated in both animal and birds books) to expert so it's false advertising for all beginners. In all books the instructions aren't clear, there's a guessing game if you don't understand what the instructions (a bunch of arrows and/or dotted lines; no words) wants to do. I had to go on YouTube to figure out a few. The paper that comes with is nice; no complaints there.Summary: Want to learn? Just get the easy orgami. The other two books just don't have enough instructions to make any since unless you're already a pro
I have always liked Origami, and I purchased this set to share that art & hobby with my nieces. I like this set and that it comes with a selection of papers to use for folding the various shapes. This includes regular paper in a rainbow of different colors, regular paper with a sort of "kaleidoscope" pattern in several color combinations, and a few different colors of metallic (foil on one side) paper. There are about four (4) sheets of each paper.There are a couple of things I want to share with anyone looking to purchase this item. First, be sure that you take a look at what books are included in this set. When I ordered this set I also ordered another book called "Easy Origami". If I had checked I might have seen that this set already includes that book, but I just gave the extra copy to my sister to take home. Also they call this set "Origami for Beginners", however the other two books "Birds in Origami" and "Favorite Animals in Origami" would actually be more for intermediate paper folders, in my opinion. As I said, I like this set, but that's just something to be aware of if you plan to purchase this.
I recently decided to learn how to do origami. I purchased this kit for beginners and was not disappointed at all! It comes with three books and sheets of paper. The paper is very good quality and the books are fairly easy to follow. The first book is full of basic origami designs, the second is birds and the third is zoo animals. The second and third books are a bit advanced and I had to go to Youtube to see what some of the folds look like in real life. Once I got the folds down then the books were a lot easier to follow. The only reason that I dropped a star in the review is that I think the second and third books are more for intermediate to expert level and not beginners. If there was a way to get bird and zoo animals in a beginner format that would be wonderful.
While I admit that it's takes some practice reading the diagrams they are easy to complete even for a child. I do recommend reading the pages dedicated to how to read the book, I didn't and struggled until I read what it wanted wanted me to do when it use a certain symbol.I bought this set for myself to learn origami and fell in love with the art. But the fun wasn't limited to me- My 6 year old nephew was playing with my set and we got half the way though one of the books while he was with me one day. While he needed to be walked through the first couple he soon understood the pictures (mostly) and was able to complete several by himself including a tulip and stem and a fish. The bright sheets of paper and wide range of choices were a hit for him and I.I would recommend this for a beginner - if a 6 year old with a short attention span can do it so can you. He liked the set so much he'll be receiving one for his birthday.
I bought this for my 8-year-old daughter for her birthday and I was amazed to see just how much came with this kit! It comes with all the paper you need and 3 books of instructions for countless origami you can choose from to make. The instructions for each are extremely detailed so even my daughter could do the easier ones. She's started on the first book where the easy ones begin but she needs help from time to time on the harder ones as she gets further into the first book. I would have rated this kit 5 starts except for the fact that the paper is pretty small so the finished origami ends up to be quite tiny. Overall, a wonderful kit for anyone who likes to create animals, boats, hats, etc., for fun.
The books are great quality. I know that my daughter will love this gift. She is 8 years old and always talking about these two kids in her class that know origami and how cool it is. She watches youtube videos and tries to replicate stuff with regular computer paper so I think this kit will be nice considering it has actual origami paper. She gets so frusterated when the figures don't come out and papers go flying everywhere but she just starts over and is finally very proud of herself when the shapes finally come out. She made claws the other day and was going around like wolverine! Considering that, I wish it brought more paper because I know that for beginners, you waste like 3 papers for every 1 that comes out right. For the price, I think it was a wonderful starter kit though and I think I will just buy more paper before Xmas so there is plenty for mess ups and plenty for her to let others try without feeling like their won't be enough paper!!!!
I ordered this kit because my son borrowed an origami book from his elementary school library. With the cold weather and indoor recess, origami has become a big hit with many in the class and the book is now in high demand. I ordered him this kit because it got good reviews, and I thought it would make it easier for him to give up the library book. The beginner (easy) book that comes in the kit is very simple and really too easy. The other two books jump right to a difficulty level that seems to skip any inbetween level. So for us, the kit is almost worthless. The nonbeginner books do not have good enough directions. There always seems to be at least one step where we look at it and wonder how it makes this seemingly gigantic leap from the previous step. I am giving it 3 stars because it's a very nice looking set, and maybe it's just us?
